Art Sorb Humidity Controller

Description

The Humidity Controller ArtSorb is filled with moisture sensitive silica material, capable of absorbing and desorbing moisture to maintain constant humidity in a sealed environment. It is designed for artwork, artefacts and cultural assets, to prevent cracking, colour fading, and deformation caused by climatic changes in temperature and humidity over time. Although air conditioning can prevent damage caused by the temperature and humidity, an ideal microclimate is still needed to preserve artworks and artefacts. The Humidity Controller ArtSorb is hence able to avoid the deterioration of these treasured pieces, protecting them.

Humidity Controller ArtSorb vs Silica Gel

Ordinary Silica Gel desiccants are only capable of absorbing moisture, which results in an overly dry environment that is not optimal for artworks. However, the Humidity Controller ArtSorb is capable of reacting to the humidity changes, providing precise humidity control environments between 40 – 70% relative humidity.

Applications

Humidity Controller ArtSorb can be used in display cases and is optimal when it is airtight. When a heat source such as a light is present, use a heat shield to block the light or place the light outside the box. For the Humidity Controller ArtSorb to function effectively, it must have adequate contact with air, is airtight and is spread out evenly. It must also not be in touch with the artefact.

The lifespan of the Humidity Controller ArtSorb typically last for about 5 years but depending on the environment. However, during these 5 years, a humidification process is needed, which takes place usually two to three years after first use. A hygrometer can be used to check for dehumidification.”
